  A visit to the Pamir Mountains in Tajikistan is incomplete without a trip to the village of Pamir Oteovsk and ofwpinoy , formerly known as Pamir River. The Pamir River is one of the finest sections of the river network. It forms the border with China on the northern side. It is very clean and straight with no rapids. However, its most famous attribute is the spectacular mountains of Tajikistan which rise more than 8500 feet into the air. Pamir is the home to many monasteries. Many of them are located near the edge of the river in an area called Zangagorsh. The monastery of St. Catherine's Monastery is close to the border. The monastery of Akashtay in Tashkent forms part of the flock of monasteries along the banks of the Pamir. Pamir Oteovsk and ofwpinoy have a combined population of about twelve thousand.
